Bethany All-Abilities Playground - Bethany, Oklahoma
Located just southeast of Bethany Library at 6700 NW 35th St, this inclusive playground officially opened in spring 2019. Designed with children of all abilities in mind, it offers an accessible and joyful play space.
Key Features
The playground is furnished with wheelchair-accessible ramps, rubberized safety surfacing, and adaptive equipment like a merry-go-round, swappable swings, roller slide, trike path, and lowered basketball hoop. It also includes sensory elements such as musical instruments, tactile panels, sand tables, and shade canopies.
Environment & Setting
Set within a park area adjacent to a pond near the library, the playground offers a pleasant backdrop of ducks, turtles, picnic tables, and green space—perfect for family outings.
Community Impact
This playground project was largely inspired by Sophia, a Bethany Children’s Health Center patient who helped drive fundraising efforts totaling around $200,000 to bring it to life. Dedication events such as “Spin for Sofia” highlight the strong community involvement.
Why It Matters
Bethany’s All-Abilities Playground exemplifies genuine inclusivity—architecturally, socially, and culturally. It provides equitable access, sensory-rich play, and adaptive equipment, supported by heartfelt community effort. This forward-thinking space stands as a model for inclusive parks across Oklahoma.
