Brittany's Play Adventure - Mustang, Oklahoma
In the heart of Mustang’s Wild Horse Park, you’ll find a playground unlike any other—a place where every child, regardless of ability, can swing, climb, and explore together. Brittany’s Play Adventure isn’t just a park; it’s a heartfelt community project born out of love, hope, and the belief that play should be for everyone.
The Story Behind the Playground
The inspiration for Brittany’s Play Adventure came from Brittany Grider, a young Mustang resident with special needs. Her mother, Lynly Grider, dreamed of creating a safe, inclusive space where children of all abilities could play side-by-side. That dream sparked a movement, rallying neighbors, local businesses, city officials, and the Mustang Parks Foundation to make it happen.
In June 2017, after countless hours of planning, fundraising, and even a hands-on community build day, the playground opened to the public—and Mustang gained a new treasure.
A Farm-Themed Wonderland
Step inside Brittany’s Play Adventure, and you’ll be greeted by a whimsical farm scene brought to life:
-
Barns and Silos for climbing and exploring
-
Hay bale-themed structures for imaginative play
-
Windmills and tractor-pulled wagons that double as creative play stations
-
Musical play panels that invite children to make their own joyful sounds
Everything is designed for accessibility. From the Arch Saucer Swing to ramps and shaded seating areas, the space ensures children with mobility challenges or sensory sensitivities can join in the fun without barriers.
Built by the Community, for the Community
What makes this playground even more special is the way it came to life. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help build it, creating a sense of ownership and pride that’s still felt today. Local families return again and again—not just for the slides and swings, but for the connection and togetherness the park inspires.
Making a Real Difference
With roughly 1,500 students with special needs in the Mustang school district, Brittany’s Play Adventure fills a critical need. It’s a space where friendships form naturally, where differences fade, and where every child can feel included. Its impact has been so meaningful that the playground was recognized nationally as a finalist for the Park Champion Award by the National Recreation and Park Association.
A Daily Destination
Since opening, the playground has welcomed an average of 200 visitors a day—a testament to how much the community values it. Families come to play, relax, celebrate birthdays, and simply enjoy the joy of childhood in an environment where everyone belongs.
Brittany’s Play Adventure is more than a playground—it’s a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose. In Mustang, it’s not just a place to play; it’s a place to belong.
