KidSpace Park - Shawnee, Oklahoma
KidSpace Park, located at 1423 N Center Ave in Shawnee, opened in June 2023 as one of the largest and most innovative playgrounds in Oklahoma. Spanning 7.6 acres, it features two distinctly designed playground areas—one for 2–5-year-olds and another for 5–12-year-olds—along with a loop trail of about 0.4 miles that invites families to explore together.
Exciting Amenities and Activities
More than just swings and slides, KidSpace Park is equipped with a ninja-challenge course, a 40-yard timed dash suitable for both kids and adults, and even skatepark elements with ramps and obstacles. The park includes pavilions, shaded seating, picnic areas, restroom facilities, and game pieces such as ping-pong tables, cornhole, horseshoes, and checkers—available for use through the Recreation Center or on-site. Sports enthusiasts can also take advantage of a basketball court and two pickleball courts.
Design That Inspires Play
Crafted by Landscape Structures with custom “Hedra” geometric towers and slides, KidSpace offers a futuristic, space-themed environment that encourages imaginative, unscripted play. Inclusive design is a priority, as seen in features like the We‑Go‑Round spinner accessible to children using mobility devices. SkyWays shade structures provide sun protection across the play areas.
Community-Focused Recreation
Funded through a 0.5% sales tax approved by Shawnee voters and built by Lambert Construction, KidSpace Park represents a community-driven vision realized. In recognition of its excellence, the park received the 2023 Build Oklahoma “Best-in-Class” award in park construction.
More Than Just a Playground
This dynamic space doubles as a hub for wellness and community engagement. Regular “Yoga in the Park” sessions, donation-based workshops, and other family events add vibrant life to the park. With accessible parking, restrooms, and inclusive features like infant and tire swings, the park is truly welcoming for families and visitors of all abilities.
Why KidSpace Stands Out
KidSpace Park is more than a typical playground—it’s a testament to modern, inclusive design and community involvement. For just a moderate investment of $3.5–3.6 million, Shawnee now boasts a premier recreational space that supports physical activity, imaginative play, intergenerational engagement, and social connection for children, adults, and visitors of all ages.
